NCIS, formerly known as NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service, is an American police procedural television drama series revolves around a fictional team of special agents from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, which conducts criminal investigations related to the Navy U.S. and Marine Corps.
The concept and characters were presented initially in a two-part episode of the CBS series JAG (JAG episodes 8.20 and 8.21). The show, a spin-off of JAG, which premiered on September 23, 2003 on CBS and, to date, has issued eight seasons and has entered into syndicated reruns in the U.S. network ClOO (formerly Sleuth) and Ion Television. Donald Bellisario, who created JAG, and the known series Airwolf, Magnum PI and Quantum Leap, co-creator and executive producer of NCIS.
NCIS was originally referred to as Navy NCIS season 1, however, "Marina" was abandoned later by the title, since it is redundant. NCIS was joined in his seventh season with a spin-off series, NCIS: Los Angeles, starring Chris O'Donnell and LL Cool J.
On February 3, 2011, NCIS was renewed by CBS for a ninth season. That same year, NCIS was voted favorite TV show America.
