48 Hours is a documentary and news program broadcast on CBS from January 19, 1988. The program initially had a forty-eight hours to cut a single issue and put it in a one-hour program. Renovated in 2002, when Lesley Stahl took over hosting duties from Dan Rather and the name was changed to 48 hours researching. The name was changed in 2004 48 Hours Mystery, with its unique theme and format, it uses a single machine, but is moderated by journalist assigned to the story. The current format of the documentary deals mainly with real-life mysteries and crime stories, again with one mystery per episode, due to its unique theme for Heritage Program. In April 2007, however, the program had a brief break from her mystery format to cover the slaughter at Virginia Tech
